Ocean City is a world famous seashore community located at the Jersey Shore in Cape May County, just 20 minutes from Atlantic City, 70 minutes from Philadelphia, and two hours from New York. The Victoria Inn is located in the heart of Ocean City, just one block to the beach, boardwalk.
In 2007, the Travel Channel rated Ocean City’s eight miles of beaches one of the “Best Family Beaches in America”. The Fifth Street beach at the end of our street is a guarded beach, and only two blocks away the Seventh Street Beach is reserved for surfers. A $15 million beach renovation project is scheduled for spring of 2010, so our beach will be fabulous! Stroll Ocean City's two and a half mile boardwalk and find hundreds of shops, eateries (fudge, salt water taffy, ice cream, pizza, funnel cake, French fries, snow cones, popcorn, candy apples and more), two amusement piers, a water park, mini-golf courses, movie theatres, gift shops, souvenirs, clothing boutiques, jewelry stores, a lovely Christmas shop, and much, much more. Nearby, you can rent bikes to ride on the boardwalk. Guided beach walks are available six times per week in the summer months.
At the bay, you can participate in many water sports including jet skiing, boating, deep sea fishing, whale and dolphin watching! Within walking distance you will find many restaurants, several of which remain open year-round. Ocean City has over 100 restaurants including seafood, American, Greek, Italian, delis, sub shops, and pizzerias. Just a few blocks away, from Sixth to 11th Streets on Asbury Avenue, is the shopping district of OC. This terrific area provides a variety of specialty shops, restaurants, art galleries, antique stores, upscale consignment shops, clothing boutiques, florists, and many other unique one-of-a kind stores: over 100 in all! On summer Wednesdays, visit a fabulous farmer's market just three blocks from our home with delicious locally grown produce, fruit smoothies, baked goods, fresh flowers, handmade jewelry, and arts and crafts.
Once per week in the summer is Family Night on Asbury Avenue, and another night during the week is family night on the boardwalk with musicians, karaoke, face painting and magicians. You can walk to any of these activities within 5 to 10 minutes. Within a block of our home, are many shuffleboard courts (the most shuffleboard courts north of Florida!), beach volleyball courts, 12 tennis courts (6 turf, 6 clay), a skate park (full pads and helmets are required), full track and football field. Only two blocks from our home is Veteran's Park, a lovely memorial to Ocean City's many veterans of war with events throughout the year honoring our fallen heroes. Enjoy the 9-hole public golf course located by the bay for a relaxing outing at a reasonable price. Many camps and other children's events are held throughout the summer including tennis, surfing, singing, junior lifeguarding, and many other sports.
Throughout the year, Ocean City hosts an array of events including the Antique Car Show, Corvette Show, Miss NJ Pageant, Fall Block Party, Independence Day Celebrations, Halloween Festivities, Fall Crafts Festival, Art Shows, Christmas Arts and Crafts Festival, a Christmas Parade, horse-drawn carriage rides, New Year's Eve (First Night) Events, and various charity events. Throughout Ocean City are many parks for the children The Bayside Center houses The OC Lifesaving Museum, the Historic Buildings Model Exhibit, and The Osprey's Nest with fabulous views of The Great Egg Harbor Bay. The Aquatic and Fitness Center is located about a mile from our home and has an Olympic size pool. Reasonable daily rates apply. Historic Cape May and the Cape May Zoo are within 30 minutes of our home, and along the way you will find dozens of antique stores.
